With all the attention being paid these days to zombies, vampires and werewolves, you know what classic horror archetype isn't getting enough love? The Frankenstein Monster. Fortunately, a young animator by the name of Zach Bellissimo is trying to do something about that. Bellissimo has created a fantastic short called Blenderstein!, which offers a hilarious new take on Mary Shelley's creation, combining the macabre sensibility of Tim Burton with the manic style and energy of Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi. And the best part is that you can watch Blenderstein! for free right after the jump!

Pretty cool, huh? Bellissimo lives and works in New York City, where he produced Blenderstein! at the New York School of Visual Arts. It's since become the fourth film in Cartoon Brew's Student Animation Festival, and Bellissimo has been hired by the animation studio Titmouse. What I love about his work is the love and respect he shows for classic horror characters while offering the madcap lunacy of the best cartoons from Hollywood's Golden Age. The fact that he's a hell of a draftsman doesn't hurt either. I definitely hope to see much more from Bellissimo in the years ahead.
