The time has come for horror fans everywhere to petition Guillermo del Toro to take a much-needed vacation. Though it's great to see new projects from the genre's hardest-working director, I know I won't be the only fan sad when GDT is hospitalized for exhaustion. Yeah, maybe the producer's chair has been less demanding than the director's seat these past several years, but has any producer been so busy producing? The latest film announced from the workhorse is Mama, a remake of the Spanish-language short from director Andres Muschietti, and it's set to star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones' Jamie Lannister). More after the jump.
The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Coster-Waldau "will star opposite Jessica Chastain in Mama, a Guillermo del Toro-executive produced horror movie being distributed by Universal. The movie tells the story of a couple – Chastain and Coster-Waldau – who take in their long-lost young nieces and nephews. The kids were found after living in the forest for five years but now murderous events begin to unfold and it becomes clear that a supernatural force is intent on claiming the kids."
"Andres Muschietti is directing, expanding the story he first told in his 2008 Spanish-language short. Neil Cross rewrote the script based on an original draft by Muschietti and his sister-partner Barbara Muschietti."
Seriously, Guillermo, we get it -- you're a machine. Now sack out on a beach somewhere with a bannan daiquiri and a bag of shrimp chips. You've earned it.
