Last month this reporter risked life and limb to gain access to the notorious monster-metal unit known as A Band of Orcs, and emerged mostly unscathed from one of our more fascinating artist interviews. Be sure to check out the entire article here, so you know what kind of unpredictable beasts we're dealing with. In that conversation, the Orcs revealed that their next sonic assault would come soon in the form of a new song entitled "Wyrd of the Winter Wolf," and we're here to say that time has come. We've got the single below, so flip it over and enter a dark new corner of the Orcs' weird and violent musical world...
It's been a while since the Orcs released their previous single "Into the Maelstrom" from their debut EP Warchiefs of the Apocalypse (there's also a freak-tastic video to go with it, which is included with the interview), but the band's dark fantasy-themed brand of death metal is clearly evolving with their latest release. According to Orc bass player Gronk! (yes, the exclamation point is part of the name) "Wyrd of the Winter Wolf" is an ode to his favorite creature, the werewolf... in fact, he listed The Howling as his favorite horror film, bless his twisted little black heart.
The band currently has enough material written for their first full-length release, and they may be headed for the studio to record those songs this November, with a potential summer spring/summer 2012 release; otherwise the band is keeping the rest of their nefarious doings under lock and key. But if you're down with Orc Metal, the new track should keep you sweet for a little while. Have a listen!
