'Psycho' Comes to the Small Screen

A&E has announced that they are in development on a new TV series based on Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Tentatively titled Bates Motel, the scripted series will be set as a prequel to the 1960 classic. More after the jump.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, "the series would offer an understanding into how Norman Bates' psyche developed and would tell the back story of the film's killer, learning of how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged him, transforming him into serial-killing motel owner." Norman Bates is the second fictional-serial-killer-based-loosely-on-real-life-killer-Ed-Gein to receive the series treatment this season. NBC has a project based on Hannibal Lecter that will likely get a pickup.
