FEARnet?s fearless reporter Joe McCabe (a.k.a. MaCabre) here, with a quick report on the bite we took out of the Big Apple this weekend. Yep, FEARnet made its presence known in a big way at the second annual New York Comic Con, with lots of celebrity interviews and plenty of sweet swag giveaways, courtesy of our ever-popular FEARgirls.

Saturday was the biggest day of the Con, and the day belonged to horror, with most of the major panels devoted to our favorite genre in movies, TV, and comics. Our day began with the strangest breakfast we?ve ever had, courtesy of our friends at Fox Atomic. No sooner had we started eating our omelet than we were shown some never-before-seen footage from the upcoming Hills Have Eyes 2. Suffice it to say, it blew both mind and stomach. Fortunately, we had an great excuse to forego finishing our eggs, for we were immediately joined by the film?s writer and producer, Wes Craven himself, as well as his son and co-screenwriter Jonathan Craven, and the film?s lovely stars Daniella Alonso and Jessica Stroup. They took some time to chat with us, and we?ll feature these interviews on FEARnet in the coming days.

As soon as we finished talking Hills 2, we dashed off to the Special Events Hall for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer 10th Anniversary panel, on which some of the show?s most prominent guest stars appeared?among them Buffy?s first ?replacement? slayer Kendra (Bianca Lawson) and the vamp who slayed her, the mad Drusilla (Juliet Landau).

We next hit the exhibit hall to check out the new comics and toys on display; and caught advance looks at Fox Atomic?s The Hills Have Eyes: The Beginning graphic novel and Mezco Toyz upcoming Cinema of Fear action figures. We also took note of the many other new horror comics out there, and the full line of fear titles one major publisher has in development. We?ll run full reports on all of these in the coming weeks.

Next we headed back to the Special Events Hall for the convention?s guest of honor, the Master of Fear, Stephen King. King discussed Marvel Comics new Dark Tower miniseries and his plans to rewrite a substantial amount of his Dark Tower books?which he considers a ?work in progress??possibly incorporating elements introduced in the comics.

When the King panel wrapped, we ran out to meet a few of the other legendary figures in fear, Showtime?s Masters of Horror. We recorded interviews with series creator Mick Garris (who spoke of his hopes for the third season), John Landis (who talked about his continued interest in adapting the horror musical Bat Boy), and Stuart Gordon (who?s trying to secure financing for House of Re-Animator).

Finally, after chatting with the veterans, it was time for us to speak with the new kid on the block?Eli Roth. Roth and the stars of his hotly anticipated Hostel Part II?Heather Mattarazzo and Roger Bart?showed us some exclusive footage and gave us a few tidbits we can?t wait to share with you.

With all the horrors we beheld at Comic Con, you might find yourself asking, ?FEARnet, what was the most chilling?? Well, it turns out Del Rey Manga has this new comic developed by?and apparently featuring a character not unlike?Avril Lavigne.

Brrrr.
