Perseus is back in his battle of survival against the all powerful Medusa in the remake of Desmond Davis?s 1981 classic, The Clash of The Titians! What?s more is Lawerence Kasdan (Dreamcatcher) is set to write...
According to filmstalker.com, Kasdan wrote the scripts for Empire Strikes Back, Body Heat, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill, Return of the Jedi and Wyatt Earp while directing Body Heat, Big Chill and Wyatt Earp. He's set to rewrite the screenplay already created by Travis Beacham. The story comes from The Hollywood Reporter through Rope of Silicon.
The original tells the myth of Perseus and his battle against Medusa and the Kraken to save the Princess Andromeda, and through it all the Gods play their games.
Now I loved the original, and I still love seeing it again and again. For me it sits with the classics of the likes of another of Ray Harryhausen's special effects films Jason and the Argonauts. Brilliant stories with wonderful effects, focusing on the story more than the effects.
So will a remake work? Can they make it better? Well if they can keep the focus on that script I think it will work, but if they throw modern special effects at it without much else then I can see it failing. By all means exploit modern CGI, but remember the story. Can you see a Clash of the Titans remake doing well?
