MGM has announced the first slate of their direct-to-video division, launching in February. Audrey Rose, a remake of Robert Wise?s 1977 paranormal thriller is the first to be released along with Dark Blue, ?another? remake, written by John Herzfeld (The Death and Life of Bobby Z.)
According to homemediaretailing.com, also slated are extensions of girl empowerment franchises Legally Blonde and The Cutting Edge. Legally Blondes stars British twins Camilla and Rebecca Rosso (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) as cousins of the Elle Woods character, originally played by Reese Witherspoon. The Cutting Edge 3 is written by Susan Jansen (Lizzie McGuire).
MGM also will develop a film version of the acclaimed Showtime series Dead Like Me. The dark comedy will be directed by Stephen Herek (Man of the House).
Original films produced in the line will include Captive, a claustrophobic thriller written and directed by Amanda Gusack (In Memorium); the horror-thriller Pet, and the action-packed Angelmaker.
Previously announced titles include the sequels Species: The Awakening and War Games: The Dead Code, as well as the ?Stargate" films The Ark of Truth and Continuum.
