?Torture porn? why is horror all of a sudden torture porn? Can?t a film show a little blood and guts without getting ridiculed these days? Recently, with all of the madness surrounding our beloved horror films, the up n? comers have been a little weary about creating a solid R rated film. What?s worse, not only is Hollywood recreating all of our classic thrillers, but now they are downgrading them into ?softer? horror. Is anyone else mad about this, but me? According to Brittney Snow, the upcoming star of the Prom Night remake, the film is rated PG13, and there is also ?no blood, guts or gore.?
According to moviesblog.mtv.com, from Hairspray to horror, actress Brittany Snow sure is getting around these days. The bubbly blonde has just finished shooting the remake of the fondly-remembered 80?s slasher flick Prom Night, and told us recently that the film?s reinvention should make it more appealing to a ?00?s audience. ?It?s just taking the same name as ?Prom Night? the original, but it?s a different script. It?s actually more in the vein of ?Fear,? with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Wahlberg,? she told us.
While we?re all for re-visiting Marky Mark?s salad days, the original Prom Night is still being watched for good reason. So, we had to ask: What?s the plot all about this time? ?[It?s about when] my teacher becomes obsessed, and falls in love with me, starts stalking me, winds up at my prom night and starts wreaking havoc on everyone,? said Snow.
And after the onslaught of ?torture porn? flicks like Hostel and Saw, the actress insisted that the psychological horrors of the new flick (which co-stars Idris Elba and Johnathon Schaech) will come across like a breath of fresh air. ?It?s more of a thriller,? she said of the flick, directed by TV veteran Nelson McCormick. ?There?s no blood, guts or gore.?
Will Murphy?s character of Donna make it home by midnight? We?ll find out next prom season, as Night dances into theaters in April of 2008. Meanwhile, Murphy can be seen cutting up a very different rug as desperately diabolical dancer Amber von Tussel in Hairspray, which co-stars John Travolta, Amanda Bynes and Zac Efron and lands in theaters July 20th.
