From Variety
Frank Miller, creator of such comic gold as Sin City and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, has just picked up Gabriel Macht to star in The Spirit. The Spirit, originally created by comic legend Will Eisner, is about a police detective who was believed to be killed. He lives, however, and uses the fact that everyone thinks he?s dead to fight crime as a masked vigilante. Miller has written an adaptation for the film, and will be directing it himself.
Shooting for the film begins in October, with an eye toward a 2009 release. The company says that they like Macht for his dry wit and personality, and they were looking for someone who could play The Spirit for many years, because they don?t see this being the only installment. A franchise by Miller based on one of the most pivotal comics of all time? Yes please.
