Going Back to 'Escape'

Len Wiseman (Underworld) has agreed to direct a remake of Escape From New York. The film will star Gerard Butler and will be written by Black Hawk Down scripter, Ken Nolan. Among the executive producers are many of the original producers from the first film, and John Carpenter, the original director.
The original Escape was set in the far future of 1998, where a futuristic Manhattan was turned into a giant prison. Butler will play the lead role of Snake Plissken, a convict and hero who must save the president after his play is bombed by terrorists.
