The tradition of the Dark Ride has been a long time staple in amusement park fare. A dark ride was originally simply a cart on rails that went through tracks indoors at an amusement park. As time went on, many of these rides took advantage of the perpetual dark the indoor rides provided, and began making horror, or haunted house featured rides. One of the most famous of these rides is Disney?s The Haunted Mansion. Many of these rides have stood for decades, and in many small amusement parks they?re one of the highest attractions.

Now, two classic Dark Rides in Rye, NY?s Playland Park are in jeopardy of being destroyed. Zombie Castle and Flying Witch are set to be destroyed by November 30th. A petition has been set into motion to keep these classics alive, which are both still fully functioning and have received updates in sound and mechanics.
