Mario Van Peebles to Direct Sci-fi

Mario Van Peebles (Jaws: The Revenge, Solo) will direct his own sci-fi screenplay, The Uniter. The movie follows a political fugitive who flees from the future back to present day in order to teach a young boy how to use special powers he possesses to save the world. Van Peebles once made quite the living as a strapping action star, but now turns his attention more toward directing, having directed a documentary (Bring Your a Game) and episodes of the FX show, Damages. If this is what the future holds for action stars, then I simply cannot wait for new screenplays and directorial debuts from the Rock and Vin Diesel, can you?
