Traffic on the 405 was at a standstill, I should have known better, but the worst is over, I?m at the set just about an hour late. As I find my way to the correct soundstage (you mean I?m not here for a Boston Legal set visit?), I can see the lights and camera rolling as I walk up a set of stairs onto the observation level (which is still part of the live set mind you) during rehearsal. The scene? A rustic old morgue with a group of med students surrounding a headless, sliced open corpse. The film? Pathology, from German video director Marc Schoelermann, producing team Marc Neveldine/Brian Taylor (Crank) and an all star ?attractive? cast including Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes), Lauren Lee Smith (Trick 'r Treat), Johnny Whitworth (CSI:Miami, Empire Records) and fan boy fave Alyssa Milano.
Their heads are going to look fantastic lined up next to one another on the theatrical poster ? This I can assure you.
In the film, the med students play a game to see which of them can commit the perfect murder, interesting. On set, the vibe is low key and fun, despite the morbid subject matter. At one point the cast decides to play an impromptu game of hot potato with a severed head. Then we watched them shoot what we were told is the opening scene of the film of which I can tell you very little about, but rest assured it was both disturbing and laugh out loud funny, both at the same time. Schoelermann tells us that even though he wouldn?t call Pathology a horror film, ?It?s much more intelligent than your average horror film? He also tells us along with the rest of the cast that they?ve spent some time in real morgues and around real dead bodies.
Lauren Lee Smith tells FEARnet ?We?re going to hell for this and the sad thing is it?s ridiculously fun??when asked if she?s losing any sleep, Smith simply replies ?(Getting) 12 hours a night.?
Pathology is set to hit theaters on Nov 30th from MGM, expect to see more from the set of Pathology from FEARnet soon.
