Korea-based artist and sculptor Hyungkoo Lee has launched a new art series entitled “Animatus,” which helps to conjure childhood nightmares by transforming beloved cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry and Wile E. Coyote into grotesque skeletons.

While the series – recently highlighted by Laughing Squid – uses no actual animal bones (the sculptures are painted resin over aluminum & steel armatures), that fact doesn't take away from the seriously macabre vibe these wacky cadavers give off. Each figure is given a faux species name for a suitably forensic touch.

Personally, I would have chosen the title “Skele-toons” for this collection... but that's just me. Besides, that name might already be taken.
