In 1996, the Virginia Renaissance Faire opened its annual summer festivities in Fredericksburg on elaborate fairgrounds filled with fairytale buildings. But it wasn't long before extreme heat, rain and humidity made it unbearable for the guests – especially the folks wearing layers of period costumes – and the original grounds were abandoned just three years later. (The Faire is now located in Spotsylvania, VA.)
