BlizzCon 2011: Diablo 3 - 'It's Done When It's Done'

One of the most anticipated genre games in recent memory, Diablo 3 still does not have a release date. In typical Blizzard fashion, "It is done when it's done," said senior VP of Creative Development Chris Metzen at today's BlizzCon 2011. But it's got to be close, as they were showing off the special edition details at this morning's opening ceremonies. Hit the jump to check out all the goodies and find out how you can get Diablo 3 for free.

Diablo 3 will be available as digital download, in traditional box form, and as a limited edition box set. The limited edition will include codes to unlock exclusive in-game items for Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, and World of Warcraft; behind-the-scenes DVDs, and a Soulstone USB that comes pre-loaded with Diablo 2 and comes in a Diablo skull case.

You want D3 for free, do you? Well, if you are a World of Warcraft subscriber (and really, why wouldn't you be?) it can be yours. Blizzard announced today the World of Warcraft annual pass. Commit to a one-year subscription to WoW (you can still be billed monthly) and you will get a code to download Diablo 3 the minute it goes live. Not a trial version or a limited-access version - the whole retail game. You will also get an exclusive WoW mount - Tyrael's Charger, and guaranteed access to the next WoW beta ("Mists of Pandaria," also announced today).
