The epic Cabin in the Woods is a cinematic love letter to horror movie fans, and this year the film's director Drew Goddard is literally bringing that homage to life in an elaborate maze for the 23rd Annual Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando, Florida.
According to a report from Zap2It, Goddard has teamed up with Universal to recreate the film's locations, scenes and monsters in detail, allowing patrons to participate in the story.
"My wish for Cabin was always that it would live on outside the film, that people would take that ball and run with it,” he says, “and I can't imagine a better fit for what we were trying to do with the movie than to make a maze out of it.”
Goddard and the team are also working on a new storyline tailored to the attraction, in which guests will take on the roles of newly-hired staff at the Facility. They will view “training videos” bringing them up to speed on the Cabin's function and design before being plunged into the bloody action in real-time. The designers have not yet revealed whether the original film's cast members will be participating in these videos.

"The whole idea of the maze is to have varying creatures in it," explained Universal Orlando's Michael Aiello. "In the maze, we've got many that were in the forefront of a lot of the scenes – the ballerina, the Sugarplum Fairy, the Hell Lord – but also too there are a couple rooms where we're kind of featuring some of the creatures that were just on the screens in the control room of movie... and then in the finale we've got a couple characters that could open up from Halloweens past, our own events, because we were granted amazing permission to be able to include some of our lineage into Cabin's lineage." He reports that the film's evil gods will make an appearance in the finale as well.
The Cabin in the Woods maze will be exclusive to Universal Studios Orlando, and their Halloween Horror Nights event runs from September 20th through November 2nd. Visit their official site for more info.
