San Diego gore-grind death metallers Cattle Decapitation are just finishing up the songwriting phase of their upcoming studio album (the follow-up to their well-received 2009 record The Harvest Floor), and are now preparing to enter the recording studio to lay down the new tracks in the next couple of months. Read more about the new material on the flipside, along with a cryptic teaser clip. Jump in and check it out!

The band began writing songs for their still-untitled album nearly a year ago, after wrapping up the 2010 "California Blood" tour, and they are preparing to enter Flatline Audio in Denver early next year to lay down the tracks. Shortly after, the band plans on performing some of the new material live during three January shows (Phoenix, Albuquerque and Denver), with a tentative spring 2012 release for the record.
"As it comes down to the home stretch before recording, we have been focusing on getting the last two songs written as well as refining and tightening the tracks which are already completed," said guitarist Josh Elmore. "The overwhelming impression I get from this new batch of tunes is that they have benefited greatly from a more streamlined approach."
The Decap team will soon be presenting the album title and splattery cover ar from Wes Benscoter – his fifth cover for the band – which they have described as "breathtaking GORE-geousness," so we'll be on the lookout for that, especially since Benscoter's past work has been banned or censored in several countries. (Ever wanted to see a cow pooping out human body parts? Google the uncensored cover for Humanure.)
In the meantime, here's a teaser for the album, which is obviously light on music since the band hasn't recorded the new stuff yet... but after that, you can dig the chilling clip for "Regret and the Grave" from The Harvest Floor:
