Word on the street is that producer Michael De Luca is developing a remake of the steamy 1987 supernatural thriller Angel Heart. The original film, which starred Robert DeNiro, Mickey Rourke and Lisa Bonet, garnered much controversy upon its original release for its steamy sex scenes and taboo thematic elements. Along with the rights for the remake of the film, its source material (William Hjortsberg’s 1978 novel Falling Angel) has also been optioned by producer De Luca and partners Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta, according to Variety. Not much else is known about the potential remake aside from its existence, but De Luca did comment on the project saying: “It's a great blend of genres with a great Faustian bargain, compelling, universal themes and a rare combination of literary and commercial appeal.” Angel Heart centers on the exploits of Harry Angel, a New York detective hired by a mysterious client to track down a once-popular performer indebted to him. While pursuing this seemingly routine investigation, Harry encounters dark and supernatural forces.
