First hinted on the official MySpace page of Dimmu Borgir keyboardist Mustis (aka Øyvind Mustaparta), and confirmed this morning on the band’s official website, the long-time member has parted ways with the legendary Norwegian black metal band, along with tenor-voiced bassist/supporting vocalist ICS Vortex (alias Simen Hestnæs). Not a lot of details have come out yet, but so far it's not looking too good...
According to yesterday’s news from Blabbermouth, the departure of Mustis and Vortex – which comes after playing with band over the better part of the past decade – was allegedly not on friendly terms, supporting rumors that there have been some tensions within the band for several years. It's also telling that Mustis has updated his MySpace only with this activity line: “Mustis in Dimmu Borgir/RIP 1998-2009/See ya all later in a new form!!/Same goes for Vortex.” Sounds pretty damn final to me.
This official post from the band states only that “we have parted ways with both Vortex and Mustis. However, we do want to make it perfectly clear that the creative force in the band is highly intact, perhaps even more so than ever.
With that being said, we're currently working on our next album and are excited to start a new chapter in the legacy that is Dimmu Borgir.” Time will tell if those plans come to pass.
