Not too long ago, we showed you some examples of the “happy face” spider, which is basically the creepy clown of the bug kingdom. But when this image popped up on the blog The Featured Creature, we started to think there's something supernatural at work here.
The site pointed out the resemblance between the pattern on this crab spider (species Thomisidae) and the face of Pennywise, the evil child-murdering clown famously portrayed by Tim Curry in the TV miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's IT.
Photographer Igor Ryabov was experimenting with macro-photography near his home in the Ukraine when he spotted the demonic creature. “I was even more stunned to see how it looked on my computer screen,” he explained, “because it was almost as if somebody had drawn the features on with a pen.”
If you recall, in King's novel, the climactic incarnation of IT was a gigantic spider which could take control of your mind if you stared into its eyes long enough. Wait, how long were you looking at this picture?
