E3 may not officially start until June 5th, but the deluge of new media that always arrives in advance of the show proper has officially begun. At a press conference this morning, Konami announced the second of the two rumored Castlevania titles in the works…aaand it's what we all expected. Check out the first trailer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 after the break.
I'm not complaining in the least about a sequel to the phenomenal Lords of Shadow, which finally gave us a 3D Castlevania we could really sink our teeth into, especially with Mercurysteam continuing the bold story decision made over the course of the last game and its twin DLC packs. At the end of Lords of Shadow, we saw Gabriel Belmont corrupted by power and eventually becoming a wraith named Dracul (which explains just where the hell Dracula was during the game proper) whose immortality has kept him alive to the modern age.
Lords of Shadow 2 looks to pick up not too long after the first game—although Gabriel is now sporting an appropriately evil goatee—with Gabriel's castle (vania?) being stormed by a heavily armored phalanx. It all looks ridiculously cool, but the end of the trailer raises one very nerdy, excited question: is that Alucard? As in Symphony of the Night Alucard? Hopefully Konami will fill in some more info next week at E3
