E3 2013: More Horticultural Horror in ‘Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare’

E3, as usual, is flush with announcements, both expected and unexpected.  Another Plants vs. Zombies game is no surprise, given the recent Facebook release of Plants vs. Zombies Adventures and the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time.  However, EA let one weird-ass bomb drop with Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.

According to Joystiq (from who I also snagged the trailer), PvZ:GW is a third-person action game powered by the Frostbite Engine, in which players have to control a platoon of plants who have to repel the zombie hordes using their floral firepower.  Gameplay is “multiplayer and team-based” with units each wielding their own “unique arsenal.”  I smell a Team Fortress 2 clone, folks.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will first see release on the Xbox One, with a port for the Xbox 360 occurring at a later date.  Neither version has a confirmed release date.
