In what comes as no surprise to genre fans who have been eagerly awaiting the premiere, Fede Alvarez’s blood-soaked Evil Dead reboot led the box office this weekend bringing in $26M domestically and $30.5M worldwide. This is a good showing for a movie that cost only $17M to produce.
"Fede did an amazing job remaking this film," Sony president of domestic marketing Rory Bruer said. "When you think you've seen it all, they bring in something new. The movie really is scary."
It was a nostalgia-filled weekend with Jurassic Park 3D taking the number four spot at the box office with $18.2 M, which THR reports is one of the best openings for 3D relaunch. “… coming in No. 4 domestically with $18.2 million, one of the top openings for a 3D redo (as a way of comparison, Titanic 3D opened to $17.3 million domestically).”
