'Fallout: New Vegas' Announced!

Looks like Vegas is the new hotspot for sequels, with Dead Rising 2 being transported from Willamette to Fortune City (which is just a thinly-veiled Vegas), and now the Fallout universe is returning to the post-apocalyptic Pacific time zone with Fallout: New Vegas.

Just announced at a London press conference by Bethesda, and reported by Kotaku, Fallout: New Vegas will see Bethesda releasing development duties to Obsidian, developer of such titles as Knights of the Old Republic II and the sadly-cancelled Aliens RPG.

Interestingly, Bethesda’s Pete Hines refers to New Vegas not as a sequel to Fallout 3, but as “… simply another Fallout game in that universe.”  He also notes that the development of this new Fallout will not affect the other project in development at Bethesda, which is allegedly the next entry in Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series.
