There are few things on this planet that have the ability to put a smile on my face like the Madballs, a line of squishy gross-out toys that were first introduced back in the late 1980s - right around the time I was born. Nearly 30 years later, those little round monsters are as popular as they ever were, and this past Wednesday they made their most unexpected debut on the runway, courtesy of avant-garde fashion designer Jeremy Scott (above, sandwiched between my childhood friends Slobulus and Screamin' Meemie).
Much like myself, Scott is big into 80s monster toys, and he created an incredibly cool line of clothing inspired by the Madballs, which he showed off on the runway this past Wednesday. "I am a huge fan of Madballs," he said, "and super excited for the opportunity to create something wearable out of a cherished childhood icon and something seemingly so gross!"
This isn't the first time Jeremy Scott has taken inspiration from 80s toys. Back in 2012 he designed a pair of My Pet Monster-inspired shoes, which caused quite a stir!
