Fox Picks Up Kevin Williamson's 'The Following'

Good news, Kevin Williamson fans -- Fox has just annouced it's picked up the Scream and Vampire Diaries writer-producer's The Following, a serial killer drama starring Kevin Bacon. More after the jump.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "With House coming to an end, [Fox] will look to fill its few holes with another medical drama [Mob Doctor] and a serial killer drama from The Vampire Diaries creator Kevin Williamson."

"The thriller revolves around an ex-FBI agent (Kevin Bacon) who leads the search to catch a diabolical serial killer (James Purefoy) who has created a cult of serial killers and hails from Warner Bros. Television." (By the way, I'm assuming that means the show, and not the cult, hails from Warner Brothers TV. Thought a cult of bloodthirsty actors and key grips runnng around the studio lot would be interesting.)

"Marcos Siega, who helmed the pilot for Williamson's Vampire Diaries, executive produces and directed the pilot, which co-stars Shawn Ashmore, Natalie Zea, Valorie Curry and Jeananne Goossen."

Two intense actors and a mucho serioso premise leads me to believe this will be a decidedly more grown-up affair than The Secret Circle. But I don't doubt Williamson'a ability to subvert expectations.
