Among their many eerie features, spooky culture website The Year of Halloween often compiles images of the world's creepiest abandoned locations, and earlier this year their gallery “Bury the Carnival” showcased 50 chilling photos taken from a wide assortment of long-dead amusement parks in many different countries.

The collection includes a few locations we've featured here before (most notably the post-Katrina ruins of Six Flags New Orleans), as well as some nightmarish spots you may have missed, like Ohio's Chippewa Lake Park, Beijing's Wonderland, South Korea’s Okpo Land, or American Adventure Park in Derbyshire, UK.
Like New Orleans, or Pripyat park near Chernobyl, many of these parks were shut down due to regional disasters (natural or otherwise), while others were the sites of fatal accidents, which led to their closing for safety reasons.
