When Brazilian street artist Herbert Baglione went exploring an abandoned psychiatric hospital in Parma, Italy, he found a suitably creepy canvas for his painting project “1000 Shadows.”
The art series, compiled by the site Arrested Motion, depicts ghostlike silhouette figures, cryptic inscriptions and twisted semi-human forms...
… and seems right at home among the crumbling corridors of this long-dead facility.
The designs are both chilling and heartbreaking, as he captures the despair, angush and rage that seems to permeate the broken fixtures and seeps through the peeling plaster.
You can see more of Baglione's work, most of which is not nearly as creepy as this series, at his official site. The text is in Portuguese, but art is a universal launguage (and so is music, as you can see he's a Slayer fan).
