Guillermo del Toro Enters the 'Haunted Mansion'

Guillermo del Toro made an exciting announcement this morning at Comic-Con.  He plans on developing a feature film based on Disney's Haunted Mansion ride!  More deets after the jump.

Back in 2003, Disney released two feature films based on their most popular rides.  One was the immensely successful Pirates of the Caribbean, and the other was the disatrous "comedy" Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy.  As a life-long Disneyland visitor, it was heartbreaking to see my favorite ride get such shabby treatment.

With del Toro's surprise announcement this morning, my spirits have soared.  In the hands of the man who created Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy, I have no doubt that del Toro's version will be phenomenal.

"Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy," del Toro said Thursday morning.  “I couldn't be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!"
