Mere days after director Guillermo del Toro announced he was in development on a new Hitchcockian TV series, the hardest working man in the genre has another TV series in development. This one is set up at FX, and is going straight to pilot.
The show will be called The Strain, based on a three-novel series del Toro co-wrote with Chuck Hogan. The book series takes the traditional monsters-created-by-virus story, but instead of zombies, it is a vampire virus. The story follows the CDC doctor who is investigating the virus.
Del Toro and Hogan will co-write the pilot. Carlton Cuse (who has another high-profile genre TV series in production: Bates Motel) will help develop The Strain and should it go to series, he will be showrunner.
