By now, it’s kinda rare that that horror-metal legends GWAR could do anything we might consider shocking… but this news might still come as a bit of a surprise. The band’s famously outlandish frontman Oderus Urungus has just announced that he’ll be going to the mat – literally – with IWA nemesis (and known fan-basher) Tracy Smothers for a no-holds-barred smackdown later this month. Oderus is not known for keeping quiet about his escapades, so read on to find out what the almighty keeper of the Cuttlefish of Cthulhu had to say about the event!
Oderus (aka Dave Brockie) commented in the band’s latest press announcement about squaring off against “known large and hairy person” Smothers… "I have no idea how I got roped into this one,” he says. “I guess someone is making money off it. No matter! I will be there, with bells on, and this Tracy Smothers so-and-so is going to find out just what it's like to go toe-to toe with an intergalactic god! I just hope he shaves his armpits first."
The match will take place at Schoenbaum Amphitheater in Coonskin Park, Charleston, West Virginia on June 24, part of the IWA East Coast event, “Madman Pondo’s Big Ass Birthday Bash.” According to the band leader, who was preparing to dip his infamous (and otherwise unmentionable) cuttlefish in “a jar of stewed bloodworms,” the loser of this battle will be forced to leave Planet Earth. "Hell, that makes me want to lose!" Oderus concluded.
Not much to add to that, other than to direct your attention to the deranged promo video below, in which Oderus calls out his opponent in his own delightfully understated way…
