Looks like venerable British horror film studio Hammer's rebirth is having some more trouble. Remember how Let Me In, despite critical praise, failed to make an impact at the box office this year? Well now it appears the studio's other big bid won't pay off. The Hilary Swank starrer The Resident, co-starring Hammer icon Christoher Lee, is heading straight to DVD. More after the jump.
According to IndieWire, "distributors Image Entertainment have slotted the film with a March 29, 2011 DVD and BluRay release date, and though last month a spring theatrical release was promised, whatever outing it does get to theaters will be purely contractual at this point."
The article's focus is on Swank's recent slump, but frankly I couldn't care less about the two-time Oscar winner. It's Hammer I'm concerned about, dammit. (C'mon guys, you're supposed to reclaim your title as the number one studio in horror!) My fingers are crossed that their next big production, the Danielle Radcliffe starring Woman in Black, fares better. But color me worried.
