Horror classic The Shining has seen hundreds of hilarious parodies over the years, from the “30-Second Bunnies” cartoon treatment (watch it in our shorts gallery here) to being re-imagined as a cute family comedy via a re-cut trailer. We recently came across an ingenious new project that kinda brings both of those ideas together: UK artist Kyle Lambert has recast the film with Disney/Pixar Toy Story characters in a hilarious new panel series.
When Lambert discovered via Twitter that Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich was a big fan of The Shining, he got the idea to merge both movies for a loving parody project.
“It started off with a few notes on a post-it describing how the two movies could be combined and quickly grew into a 25 panel storyboard,” the artist says.
“Once I had settled on the images, I set about painting each panel with my iPad using the Brushes app," he explains. "The project took around 2 months to complete in my spare time from idea to the finished storyboard.”
Apparently Unkrich loved the result and Tweeted about it, calling it an “incredible gift... So much awesomeness.”
Lambert posted the panels on his website, and also created this video showing how the panels evolved from storyboard to finished product.
