Weekend box office tallies are in, and it’s good news for Sony.
Family-friendly animated Halloween fare, Hotel Transylvania, exceeded all expectations bringing in $43 million. That’s a record-breaking September for the animated film.
"Hotel Transylvania has been a labor of love for our studio," said Sony worldwide distribution topper Rory Bruer. "To have that kind of opening really gives you an idea of just how broadly the film is playing. And in September? I mean, come on!"
Another surprise was this weekend’s release of Rian Johnson’s science-fiction-western-noir, Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It brought in $21.1M domestically and earned an estimated $31M internationally.
