The remake of William Lustig's 1980s sleaze classic, Maniac, has been picked up by IFC Midnights for a theatrical/VOD release. The film stars Elijah Wood as the titular maniac, who scalps women as an outlet for childhood abuse. Plus, he owns a mannequin store - that's pretty damn scary. The original Maniac was critically reviled and deemed a "video nasty" in the UK, causing it to be banned for decades.
Bill Lustig produced the remake, which was directed by Franck Khalfoun and written by Alexandre Aja.
