John Lithgow is about to give Michael C. Hall a run for his money. The award-winning actor will join the cast of Dexter for all 12 fourth season episodes. Lithgow will play serial killer Walter Simmons, a "mild-manner suburbanite who is one of America's most prolific serial killers." Special Agent Lundy is back, having tracked the "Trinity Killer" to Miami. Naturally, Dexter is working the case. He's both fascinated by Simmons and protective of his standing as Miami's Coolest Killer.
Sure, we got confirmation of this story through HollywoodReporter.com. But where did we first hear it? Duh – Twitter. At around 5:30 PM PST today, Lithgow tweeted: "What you hear is true. High Commander Dick Solomon will shortly be a serial killer on DEXTER. Brace yourselves." Star of stage and screen for over thirty years, Lithgow is probably best known for his role on TV's 3rd Rock From the Sun, and in films such as The World According to Garp and Twilight Zone: The Movie. Season four of Dexter starts September 27th.
