There have been a lot of rumors swirling about Crystal Dynamics revisiting their vampire-epic franchise Legacy of Kain, which last feasted upon the Xbox/Playstation 2 generation. There have been references to Nosgoth, Kain’s stomping grounds, in everything from web domain registrations to graphics card drivers, but nothing concrete has been laid out.
According to a statement from Square-Enix community manager George Kelion to VG247, Nosgoth is “not a traditional Legacy of Kain action-adventure game,” and that “Nosgoth is set in the same universe as previous LoK games, but on a different branch to the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver series. The community should not be thinking of Nosgoth in terms of a single-player experience.”
Adding even more to the Nosgoth mystery, Kelion added that the game-in-progress will not be shown at E3, and that “Nosgoth is not being developed by Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics are not working on a Legacy of Kain game.”
So what does all this mean? Is Square-Enix revisiting the franchise to throw their hat into the slowly-dying MMORPG arena? Are they trying for a League of Legends style MOBA title? There are a lot more questions than answers here, but we’ll certainly keep you posted here at FEARnet.
