According to a report from The Wrap, Mia Wasikowska – who played the title role in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and starred in Park Chan-wook's first English-language thriller Stoker and Jim Jarmusch's vampire film Only Lovers Left Alive – is now in talks to take on the lead role in Guillermo del Toro's next feature, the Gothic haunted house tale Crimson Peak.
If negotiations pan out between the actress's reps and Legendary Pictures, Wasikowska will fill the part vacated by Emma Stone, who was forced to cancel due to scheduling issues. If cast, she will portray young author Edith Cushing, who discovers that her new husband is not who he appears to be. She would join co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jessica Chastain (Mama), as well as Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam. Production is slated to begin in early 2014.
