A while back FEARnet talked to Edward Douglas, founder of Cleveland-based macabre music outfit Midnight Syndicate, about the team’s ambitious debut as feature filmmakers… and now we’re excited to announce that a date has been set for the official premiere of the first Midnight Syndicate movie and its soundtrack – as well as an avalanche of star-studded promotional events and interactive goodies to take place over the next few months. Hit the jump to find out how you can explore the dark domain of The Dead Matter…
According to the group’s latest announcement, The Dead Matter and its soundtrack are both slated for release on July 30th, but in the meantime their production company will be rolling out a major promotional campaign – including an interactive website that lets visitors explore the world of the film and its characters, a series of behind-the-scenes mini-documentaries, and three trailers – the first of which is scheduled to debut next month.
The biggest tie-in event, however, will be a video contest commemorating the film’s release as well as the band’s 13th anniversary – for which the band invites aspiring filmmakers to create a silent film or music video set to any Midnight Syndicate track. The judging panel for the videos will include Douglas and band-mate Gavin Goszka, Dead Matter co-producer Gary Jones, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider (himself an indie horror star, now casting for his sequel Strangeland: Disciple), and makeup FX legends Tom Savini & Robert Kurtzman.
The winning short will be featured on the Dead Matter DVD, and will get a load of horror swag from the band, along with Screamline Studios, Conquest Graphics, Kurtzman’s Creature Corps and Snider’s own horror-music outfit Van Helsing’s Curse. Rules and details are available at the band’s official site.
You’ll be hearing lots more about the film and soundtrack on these pages in the next few months!
