'Mortal Kombat' Creators Return to the DC Universe

While the best-case scenario one could ask for—a sequel to last year's amazing reboot of Mortal Kombat—may not be in the cards as of yet, Netherrealm Studios and WB Games announced that they will be setting a dark new fighting game in the DC Universe that asks the question "what if our greatest heroes became our greatest threat?"  More info and a trailer after the jump.

According to Gamespot, the team at Netherrealm Studios—formerly the Midway team who developed Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe--is returning to the DC Comics fountain for another fighting game go-round called Injustice: Gods Among Us.  Stripping away the Mortal Kombat characters for a purely DC focused fighter, Netherrealm still promises as many combatants in Injustice as Mortal Kombat had at launch, which means that there will be close to 30 characters to choose from the DC Comics roster.

While there obvious trinity of DC superheroes are present – Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman—Netherrealm looks to be throwing in some additional fan favorites like Harley Quinn and everyone's favorite swamp zombie, Solomon Grundy.  There are still several others slots to be filled in the lineup, so one can hope that we'll get some of DC's darker characters in the mix.

Injustice: Gods Among Us will be released in 2013 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii U.
