Dutch actor Mads Mikkelsen has landed the title role in NBC's upcoming series Hannibal. He stars opposite Hugh Dancy (Black Hawk Down), in the series produced by Brian Fuller (Pushing Daisies). More after the jump.
Hannibal is based on Thomas Harris's novel Red Dragon. Dancy plays FBI profiler Will Graham, who enlists the aid of brilliant psychoanalyst Dr. Hannibal Lecter to help him track down an elusive serial killer. Graham does not know about Lecter's "dark side." Here's hoping the producers don't try to pull a "twist" on us where Graham is unknowingly hunting down Lecter himself. Because if I can tell you that just from the log line, that is the worst twist ever.
Mikkelsen recently one the Best Actor award at Cannes for his role in The Hunt, and will also appear as the villain in the upcoming Thor sequel. Production has not yet begun on Hannibal, though NBC is pushing for a midseason premiere.
