They've been teasing us sadistically for many months, but legendary horror metallers Necrophagia have finally locked down a release date for their long-awaited (and repeatedly delayed) fifth studio album Deathtrip 69. We've been tracking the album's progress over the past year or so, but there's still a few more details trickling down the pipe that will have horror-happy headbangers wringing their hands in maniacal glee. Hit the jump for more info...
Produced by frontman Killjoy and lead guitarist Boris Randall, Deathtrip 69 was recorded at Last House on the Left Studios in Ohio with the rest of the band's current lineup – including guitarist Undead Torment, Damien Matthews on bass and drummer Shawn Slusarek. Guest artists contributing to the record include Maniac (formerly of Mayhem) and Amen's Casey Chaos.
As we reported last year, the album is loaded with the band's trademark horror themes: there's a tribute to Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead ("Bleeding Eyes of the Eternally Damned"), Mario Bava's Black Sunday ("Tomb with a View"), an homage to Night of the Living Dead "zombie girl" Kyra Schon, the giallo-inspired "A Funeral for Solange," a track devoted to Michael Dougherty's Halloween anthology flick Trick 'r Treat, and the completion of the band's legendary Evil Dead song trilogy, "Naturan Demonto."
Deathtrip 69 will be released internationally on May 16th through European label Season of Mist, and reaches North American shores on the following day. The album will reportedly be available in a limited "bloodpack" edition. Stay tuned for more details soon!
