'Resident Evil 6' Looks Like the Best of Both Worlds

We knew it was coming, and Capcom just made it official: Resident Evil 6 will be overrunning Xbox 360 and PS3 this November.  More details and a trailer from G4 after the break.

I'll be honest here and say that I really haven't dug RE all that much after Resident Evil 4 made the shift to Las Plagas and a more action-oriented bent.  RE5 was an even further departure, bringing bright, sunny locales into the mix and stripping away even more of the "survival" aspect of the horror.

Resident Evil 6 looks like it cribs all of the best aspects of the original trilogy—the dark, moody locales and that overbearing sense of hopelessness—and mixes it up with the balls-to-the-wall action of 4 and 5.  There's also a sense of scale that the previous two titles lacked, with a truly widespread aspect to the outbreak (70,000 infected?  Criminy!) that makes the stakes feel much higher than they have in a while.  Even the game's description sounds like they're headed back on the right track:

It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President's side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world's population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.

I'll be honest, I've watched this trailer 5 times already, and it still gives me goose bumps.  The game can't come soon enough!

Resident Evil 6 will be released November 20, 2012 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
