According to CNN, the huge cat was first sighted in a local shop, then was briefly cornered in a nearby hospital. Animal control was called in to apprehend the dangerous predator, but it made a heart-stopping escape through a hospital window, darting into a movie theater and later through a nearby apartment building. Authorities on the case say their capture attempts were disrupted when the leopard became agitated by crowds of curious onlookers.

While the leopard has not been apprehended as of this writing, there have also been no further sightings, suggesting that it may have returned to the nearby forest... but authorities are not taking any chances.

This is the latest of several leopard and tiger attacks in India in the past few months, including a fatal mauling in the eastern region of the country just last week. Wildlife experts theorize that human encroachment on big cat territory may be to blame.
