For one week a year, famous authors put down their pens and pick up musical instruments. The Rock Bottom Remainders are a band that formed 20 years ago by book publicist Kathi Kamen Goldmark. This year, the band will appear at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles on June 22nd. What does this have to do with FEARnet? Stephen King is playing.
Stephen King makes his first appearance with the Rock Bottom Remainders since 2007. The band's website promises that the authors suck, and they have "musicians in residence" who put together some semblance of a melody. After 20 years of non-touring, the El Rey show will mark the band's final public concert (unless, like all "retired" bands, a reunion tour becomes too lucrative to ignore). Proceeds from the show will go to various charities, including the Midnight Mission and the Los Angeles Women's Downtown Shelter. Confirmed for the El Rey show are Stephen King, Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons), Amy Tan, Dave Barry, Scott Turow, Mitch Albom, James McBride, Kathi Goldmark, Greg Iles, Ridley Pearson, Roy Blount, Jr, and Sam Barry. Making them sound good will be Roger McGuinn of The Byrds.
Tickets are on sale at Eventbrite and start at $40. Premium tickets are available that include a VIP reception with the band and signed lithographs.
