WB Games Montreal took over development duties from Rocksteady for last year’s Batman: Arkham Origins, but that was apparently a temporary situation, as WB Games have pulled the cowl off of the latest, and apparently last entry in the definitive Batman game series, Batman: Arkham Knight.
The trailer is all cinematic, but it shows a lot of exciting potential, including several of Batman’s foes working together, including Two-Face, the Penguin, and Harley Quinn, as well as a sinister warning from the Scarecrow. Gotham looks to be even worse for the wear, even in comparison to the ramshackle ruin that it was in during Arkham City, and there’s a big focus on the Batmobile, which lends to some extra travel possibilities.
All of this is overdubbed by a reading of the last will and testament of Thomas Wayne, lending a dollop of emotional gravitas (as well as some sly irony) to the proceedings. It gave this viewer some shivers, and that’s saying something.
Batman: Arkham Knight will be released this year for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
