Jody Mills calls the boys up about four sudden disappearances in her otherwise quiet town in South Dakota. Witnesses reported seeing a bright blue flame at the time of the kidnappings. So the Winchesters roll into town and find that the only connection between the victims is that they were all members of the Good Faith Church.

A call from an old friend of Dean’s takes the Winchesters to upstate New York for a possible haunted house. The friend is Sonny, an ex-con who runs a farm for troubled boys. Unbeknownst to Sam, Dean spent two months here when he was 16.

Kevin has had a little bit of luck translating the angel tablet. He has managed to translate it into an obscure dead language but can’t find anyone to translate that language. This means study time, so when Castiel calls Dean with a potential case (four people disappear, presumed dead), he is only too eager to head out to Idaho and follow up.

Sam finds a case for them in nearby Enid, Oklahoma. A taxidermist appears to have been crushed to death. Every bone has been broken; every joint is dislocated. The show up to investigate and find “Die Scum” in red paint on the door. A strange symbol is etched into the paint, leading the Winchesters to suspect witchcraft.

Castiel is still the on the fallen angels’ most wanted list. He has taken the name Clarence (because that is what Meg used to call him) and is getting by in various shelters and homeless communities. He spends a few days at each, then moves on.

A demon resurrects Abaddon, and brings a few other demons to serve her. She doesn’t like Crowley reigning as the king of hell. She sees him more of a salesman, dealing when he should be taking. Abaddon’s plan is to get her demons new meat suits, liberate hell, and install her as the queen.

We come back just a day after last year’s season finale, and we are essentially following three storylines: Castiel as he learns to be human; Dean as he deals with his brother’s impending death; and Sam, who must decide if he wants to fight or die.

This is how you do a season finale. I felt like much of the season was a little bit unfocused - too many threads. But this episode really tied them all together
