FEARNET IS THE NO.1 FREE ON DEMAND MOVIE NETWORK FOR FOURTH QUARTER ‘13
Network Receives More Than 14 Million Total Combined Orders for Oct., Nov. and Dec. 2013
(SANTA MONICA –Feb. 18, 2014) – – According to Rentrak, FEARNET, America’s premier horror, suspense and thriller TV network, was the No. 1 free on demand movie network for the fourth quarter, with over 14.3 million total orders. In fact, FEARNET has been the industry leader for the last four months combined–Sept., Oct., Nov. and Dec. 2013—and is on track to be the top network again for free on demand movies in January, as well. For Sept. through Dec., more than 19 million orders were placed. Since FEARNET launched its free on demand movie platform in Oct. 2006, the network has delivered over 750 million orders.
Leading the pack was James Wan’s hit supernatural thriller, INSIDIOUS, which was the most-ordered movie on FEARNET during the fourth quarter, receiving more than 1.3 million orders for that competitive time period, according to Rentrak figures. Following closely behind, in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots respectively, were DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK and AN AMERICAN HAUNTING -- both films strongly resonating with FEARNET’s movie-going audience.
FEARNET has much to offer its audience in February and March with its free on demand movies. Some of the highlights include a variety of genre favorites such as THE HOWLING, starring Dee Wallace as a reporter who finds lycanthropes at an eerie retreat; the fan-favorite OLDBOY, Chan-wook Park’s celebrated tale of a man on a quest for vengeance; MANHUNTER, starring Brian Cox as Dr. Hannibal Lecktor, helping William Petersen’s FBI profiler hunt a serial killer; 2014 Best Supporting Actor nominee Michael Fassbender as a man whose idyllic getaway becomes a nightmare when he runs afoul of deadly teens in EDEN LAKE; and THE DESCENT filmmaker Neil Marshal’s debut, DOG SOLDIERS, about a squadron in the Scottish highlands who are attacked by werewolves.
As America’s leading television and digital programming service devoted to genre entertainment, FEARNET delivers a diverse array of original and acquired horror, thriller and suspense content as a cable TV movie network, a video-on-demand outlet and award-winning web portal. The year-round horror network features box-office hits and popular movies from major film studios, independents, and foreign producers, as the channel programs over 350-plus titles a year; many of which are world television and broadcast premieres. The Channel is often ranked as the number-one free VOD movie service (available in more than 28 million homes) and the website, FEARNET.com, ranks as one of the most popular sites in the genre category for its original content, TV reviews, web shorts and exclusives. FEARNET is a partnership between Sony Pictures Television, Lionsgate Entertainment and Comcast Corporation and is widely distributed to U.S. cable subscribers across various systems.
