(SANTA MONICA, CA – APRIL 15, 2013) – Sarah Shannon has been promoted to vice president, programming and network operations for FEARnet, it was announced today by Peter Block, president and general manager, FEARnet.
Ms. Shannon will continue to create and curate programming schedules; handle acquisitions for all films, series and original programming for both the linear cable TV network and video on demand channel. She is also involved in overseeing the production of the network’s original horror-comedy series HOLLISTON, and special interstitial programming shorts created by Michael Dougherty (TRICK ‘R TREAT) and Jennifer Shiman’s 30-SECOND BUNNIES THEATRE, among others. Additionally, she supervises the company’s broadcast operations, as well as the standards and practices and traffic departments. She is integral in the company’s groundbreaking dynamic ad insertion (DAI) process, which creates a new revenue stream by placing ads on FEARnet’s video on demand systems. In her new role, she continues to report to Block.
“Sarah is a driving force behind our stunts, specials and marathons,” Block said. “She’s a great collaborator, and this year, alone, FEARnet has acquired and is airing over 300-plus movie titles, including 14 television and 22 theatrical broadcast premieres. She was responsible for acquiring the first series for FEARnet—the U.K. import PSYCHOVILLE, and the Canadian hit TODD & THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL—as well as the channel’s first off-network series acquisition, REAPER.
“She also astutely runs the operations associated with the network. She and her team make sure our programs, commercials and IDs properly populate our Linear and VOD channels, and that we strictly adhere to the latest broadcast standards. She is an extremely valuable member of the executive team, assisting our growth not only in these areas, but by facilitating our revenue through dynamic ad insertion too,” continued Block.
Ms. Shannon most recently served as Director of Programming, to which she was promoted in 2010, after launching the linear cable channel, and guiding FEARnet as it expanded into original programming. She began her career at the company in September 2007, working as its traffic and media planner. In September 2009, she was promoted to programming manager after moving with the company from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, where her responsibilities expanded to include branding and scheduling.
A native of Philadelphia, Ms. Shannon graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Advertising and Television Production. Ms. Shannon is also a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Hollywood Radio and Television Society, and Women in Cable Telecommunications.
